Definition
Dying without a valid will. When that happens, Texas statutes — not the deceased's wishes — decide who inherits.
Hypothetical
A man dies suddenly with no will. Because he died intestate, the Texas rules of descent and distribution determine how his property splits among his spouse and children, regardless of what he may have intended.
