Executor

Definition

The person named in a will to carry out its terms — gathering assets, paying debts, and distributing the estate. A court-appointed equivalent without a will is an administrator.

Hypothetical

A father's will names his eldest daughter executor. After his death, she is responsible for inventorying the estate, settling its debts, and distributing what remains as the will directs.
