Breach of Contract
Definition
Failing to perform a binding promise without a legal excuse. The injured party can sue for the losses the breach caused.
Hypothetical
A supplier signs a contract to deliver steel by March, then never ships it, forcing the buyer to pay more elsewhere. The supplier's failure is a breach, and the buyer can recover the extra cost.
